Biography

Born in New Bern NC to the late Nettie Hatch Smith, I am a graduate of the New Bern Senior High school class of 1986. I graduated from North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in May 1990. I also have an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies, bachelor’s degree in theology, and a master’s degree in biblical counseling. I hold the following certificates: Certified Advance Transformation Life Coach, Spiritual Life Coach, Goal Setting Life Coach, State Advance Corrections Certification, NC Probation Officer of the year 2006, and Craven County First Community Threat Group Officer. That caseload worked closely with people involved in street gangs. Direct release Officer for Craven Correctional Institution located in Vanceboro NC assigned Officer from 2017 to 2022. Nominated and Recognized in the NC Department of Public Safety (NCDPS) Black History Spotlight Feb 11,2021. Retired from North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Community Corrections and Juvenile Justice in July 2022 with over 30 years of service as a Probation Parole Officer. Received the Order of The Long Leaf Pine.


Community Involvement







I am an Author of several books, the latest was published November 6,2023 called “Being a Confident You Self -Help Workbook.” This book was written to help children struggling with bullying and self- esteem.

I was a prompter for the EOG. Provided Health Fairs for the local and Regional Boys & Girls Club of the Coastal Plains (such as the fair pictured above).

I am an Outreach Minister, Evangelist and Elder. Assist the “Feed My Sheep Ministry” Food Bank with monthly food drives in Havelock NC.

Adopted Riverstone Assisted Living Nursing home in New Bern NC in 2020 to assist with the needs of the residents during Covid to present. Member of the Craven County Outreach where their goal is to assist low- income families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with food and clothing.

Appointed to the Advisory Board of the State Employees’ Credit Union in 2010. In 2017, I was elected Chairman of the board until that service ended in December 2017.

I am married and have one son. My son graduated from Havelock High School with honors in 2015. He also graduated from Elizabeth City State University BA in Business Administration 2019 with honors.

As a Youth Mentor and Conference Speaker, Michele has been combating bullying and self- esteem challenges that students encounter. Michele has also been a volunteer in Craven County School System for over 20 years.

Michele will be a personal resource for all students, to make them aware of where the services are to assist them in the community.
